Gareth’s love of aviation started when his father was in the RAF. He later moved to Germany to the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC), Darmstadt in 1977. Thus followed 13 years of employment starting in the early days of computers (using email before email was email) moving into a mission operations capacity in the Main Control Room, culminating with a position in Spacecraft Control Operations for the forerunner satellites on the INMARSAT communication systems. In 1989 he became an Operations Manager at the German Space Operations Centre (DLR) based outside Munich (where he still has a home today). He picked and trained the pre and post launch team, for the ROSAT, the German/American/English X-Ray Satellite and all subsequent missions. His career spans all aspects of mission operations for 17 missions. Since 2000, Gareth has been focusing closely with the science relating to the emergency services, specifically Police Downlinks. He was responsible (and successful) for/in large areas of Europe and took overt and covert downlinks to civil, police and military customers alike in places such as, France Germany, Czech Republic etc. After briefly leaving the business in 2006 to complete renovation of an old farmhouse in Austria and act as an independent consultant Gareth became the then (and returning) Chairman of Police Aviation Conference (PAvCon). Since then he continued working within the Air Support World (ASU) with L3 Wescam in 2009, and the Simulation world in 2012. In 2015, G2 Consulting was formed. Through his many experiences and travels and the Chairmanship of PAvCon Gareth brings a wealth of independent and unfettered knowledge to the marketplace.
